Honeywell HFO-1234yf - Mobile Air Conditioning Refrigerant

Environmental Advantages
Lower Lifetime Greenhouse Gas Emissions

HFO-1234yf will produce lower lifetime GHG emissions than either 134a or CO2 (R744).

Air conditioning systems are powered by the car’s engine, so their efficiency impacts the greenhouse gas emissions of the vehicle.

The choice of the refrigerant is the key factor in determining the efficiency of the air conditioning system, because it impacts the energy required to power the system.

In developing a low-GWP solution, Honeywell looked at the GHG impact of the refrigerant and its efficiency with an eye on total greenhouse gas emissions related to refrigerants.

Emissions Explained

Direct emissions are the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the direct emission of the refrigerant.

Indirect emissions are the greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 ) resulting from the fuel burned to run the air conditioning system. The majority of total GHG emissions are indirect, so energy efficiency is very important.
